The club have found a way to retain the services of their
star player against his wishes for at least a year it seems.
The reality is he's going to leave anyway and the sooner
they prepare for his departure the better rather than
prolonging the inevitable year after year. However, it
would be brilliant if he bows out with a treble and get the
farewell he deserves after giving his all to the club.
The club have stagnated over the years without making any
significant improvement since Neymar left. The huge
money received from the deal was hugely misspent on
players who have either left or are not performing up to
required standards. Embarrassing defeats in Europe to
Roma, Liverpool and most recently Bayern Munich was the
final blow and showed Barcelona had fallen from the top.
Asides the fact that they have been poor on transfers, the
old heads have not performed to their usual high standards
raising eyebrows that they maybe don't have it in them
anymore. Club legend Ronald Koeman was appointed at the
end of the campaign after Setien was relieved of his duties.
It will be interesting to see who he brings in and who is
moved on as the transfer window progresses. The goal for
koeman is to bring Barca back to the top and he needs
Messi on board to do that and the support of the
fans as he embarks on this journey.
